The International Puppet Theatre Festival Synergura is a renowned international festival of puppetry and has been a cultural highlight for the theater audience of the Free State of Thuringia and its state capital Erfurt, for out-of-town guests and an international specialist audience since 1992. The festival is organized as a biennial by the host Theater Waidspeicher.
Thirteen ensembles from ten countries - Belgium, Germany, El Salvador, France, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain and the Czech Republic - will be making guest appearances at Synergura this year. The festival program comprises a total of 45 events.
Cie Focus & Cie Chaliwaté from Belgium will open the festival with "Dimanche " - a multidisciplinary, tragicomic and poetic evening about the effects of the climate crisis. The play deals with a family's attempt to hold on to the normality of a Sunday and combines it with impressive scenarios of ecological collapse.
The director of Theater Waidspeicher, Sibylle Tröster, has been head of the festival since 2011.
