Louise Aston and Mathilde Anneke, two revolutionaries, meet on a ship that takes them away from home. They have to flee because the revolution of 1848 has failed. They remember and dream of a better, freer future, because the long road to democracy has only just begun...
On March 18, 1848, people from Karlsruhe to Frankfurt, Dresden, Vienna and Berlin took to the barricades to fight for their freedom and democracy. 175 years later - at a time of revolt by the "last generation", Altenbach + Honsel are embarking on a poetic search for traces of the revolt of the "first generation" with 1848! . In a series of stories, scenes and songs, they use the historical figures of Louise Aston and Mathilde Anneke to tell of the people who fought for a better future with idealism and hope. About people who courageously believed that a different and better world was possible, that change and a rethink were essential. Of people who wrestled with the powerful and who, despite all the setbacks, were proved right in the end!
Gabi Altenbach and Ines Honsel tell, play and sing about destinies, the everyday and the extraordinary. With enthusiasm and a close look at the people of this era, they create a vivid picture of the events and their consequences. Not a history lesson, but an experience of the past!
