19th Leipzig Street Theater Festival 2026: Four Days of Theater Right on the Street

Theater doesn’t have to take place in a theater; sometimes it simply comes to you on the sidewalk. That’s exactly what the Leipzig Street Theater Festival has been doing since 2007, and in 2026 it will mark its 19th edition. From June 24 to 27, clowns, improv pros, puppeteers, and dancers will transform several Leipzig neighborhoods into an open stage. Knalltheater organizes this small but wonderful festival in collaboration with LATS e.V., with support from the Leipzig Cultural Office and the SMWK Saxony. Free admission—you just have to dare to stop and watch.

What’s special this year: Instead of focusing on the city center, the festival is making its way through Leipzig. Each day has its own location and atmosphere, from the rugged charm of Eisenbahnstraße to the green meadows of Clara Park.

Program Overview

Wednesday, June 24: Eisenbahnstraße
The festival kicks off in eastern Leipzig. From 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., you can look forward to several performances and walking acts. The Compagnie Lapadou will perform clownish scenes centered around a park bench, clown Trine from Dortmund will wander the street performing magic and juggling, and the Leipziger Nasen e.V. will liven up Eisenbahnstraße with their walking act.

Thursday, June 25: Karl-Heine-Straße
Things are getting colorful in Plagwitz. The Compagnie Lapadou teams up with the duo Saverio for a classical music collaboration at “Clowns Meets Klassik,” which—featuring 100Pro Theater from Halle—will present scenes from its play “Ich und Du,” Clown Trine is back on the road, and the “Tanzmäuse” from the Plagwitz Ballet School will bring their dance theater to the streets starting at 5 p.m. Activities run from 4 to 6 p.m.

Friday, June 26: Downtown, Petersstraße
Amid the hustle and bustle of Petersstraße, there’s plenty of improv to enjoy. The group “In letzter Konsequenz” will be improvising; Action&Drama and Theater All-Inclusive will present a joint show; and the Lambe Lambe Theater will showcase its miniature puppet theater, which performs for only one person at a time. Also joining the lineup are the Spielfreunde from Stollberg with a fairy tale, the youth theater group from Laientheater Eilenburg, and TheaterPack with a series of scenes. Scheduled performances: 4, 5, and 6 p.m.

Saturday, June 27: Clara Park and the Grand Finale
The final day belongs to Clara Park. Starting at 11 a.m., a children’s program featuring children’s improv theater will take place at the Rennbahnweg playground; later, the theater group Spielbande will perform scenes at the Sachsenbrücke. The highlight comes in the afternoon.

The absolute highlight: The 1st Leipzig Soccer Theater World Cup (LeFuT)
Starting at 5 p.m., a troupe of wonderfully crazy people will gather on the lawn near the Sachsenbrücke to compete in costume for the title of the first Leipzig Soccer Theater World Champion. The matches will consist of two 20-minute halves, with commentary by actress Julia Berke, who—fortunately—has absolutely no clue about soccer. The best part: In the end, everyone wins.
