What do Walter Kollo's operetta Marietta , Darius Milhaud's La création du monde and Béla Bartók's dance suite have in common? If you look at their styles and forms, they could hardly be more different. Yet all three works left their mark on the musical year 1923, the year of their premiere. Historian Mark Jones calls the political and social crisis year 1923 "a German trauma" - but this is contrasted by numerous musical masterpieces that represent a diverse, artistic image of their time. In the form of a documentary concert, the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin under the direction of General Music Director James Gaffigan explores the tonal colors of a year and, with the help of contemporary testimonies such as historical diary entries, dives back 100 years into history!
