On May 8 from 6:00 pm we celebrate our first birthday!

To mark the occasion, we are opening "Cliffhanger", the gallery's first solo exhibition with Ellen Möckel.
At the same time, we will be showing "Chimera ", a group exhibition in cooperation with the Australian Haydens Gallery, curated by Tim Cierpiszewski and Justin Andrews.

There will also be beats by DJ Shape and drinks at the bar - come along!

Ellen Möckel's works unfold as multi-layered, spatial constellations made of acrylic, cork, wood and textile, which combine to form an overall installation architecture. At the center is the concept of dignity, as formulated by Lea Ypi in her book "Aufrecht". A field of tension arises between legibility and excessive demands, in which language loses its stability and vulnerability becomes visible. By repeating, superimposing and shifting fragmented forms from her archive, Möckel creates a dynamic network of meanings that is constantly reconfiguring itself. This opens up references ranging from the ukiyo-e tradition to modernist movements such as surrealism and color field painting.

The group exhibition "Chimera" presents positions of Australian and German artists who understand contemporary abstraction as a hybrid, polyphonic field. Different materials, methods and visual languages enter into dialog and make it clear that abstraction today can be understood less as a formal system and more as an open process. With works by: Justin Andrews, Stephen Bram, Tim Cierpiszewski, Isabella Darcy, Jordan Mitchell-Fletcher, Ricarda Hoop, Kyle Jenkins, Matthias Mayer, Lina Franko & Andi Slawinski, Jacqueline Stojanović, Lydia Wierenga and Elmar Zimmermann. The first part of "Chimera" has already been shown in Australia at Haydens Gallery, Melbourne; the Leipzig exhibition is now the second chapter of this international exhibition project.
