After a successful premiere last year, International Museum Day will be celebrated again this year on May 18, 2025 with the 2nd Bürgeler Hofmarkt. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the courtyard and orchard of Haus Bürgel will be transformed into a marketplace for a day where history can be experienced. Just as the Romans once met at the Forum Romanum to chat, trade and barter, a market will invite visitors to browse. In keeping with this, fabric bags can be colorfully designed and decorated with stamps by the Monheim art school, in which all purchases can be stored. Admission to the entire area costs 5 euros per person, children up to the age of 18 are free of charge.
Visitors will once again be able to browse a wide range of regional farm produce, local delicacies and handicrafts, while at the same time setting an example for more sustainable and regional shopping. In addition, the Förderverein Haus Bürgel e.V. will be offering hot and cold drinks, cakes and waffles. Three food trucks will also be on site to provide refreshments.
Numerous hands-on activities invite visitors to get creative themselves. For example, the Monheim art school will once again be offering the opportunity to design your own colorful fabric bags. Children can also paint their own Roman armor out of cardboard.
There will also be hourly guided tours of the Roman museum. The first tour starts at 11 am, the last at 3 pm.
In addition to the market, there will also be a small flea market with several private stalls on another meadow behind the manor house.
