1st Dortmund Cartoon Show!

Holga Rosen and Ari Plikat, Petz der Bert and Reinhard Alff - the very best that Dortmund has to offer in terms of cartoonists, all in one evening, at the cinema in the Dortmunder U! It doesn't get any better than this. The 1st Dortmund Cartoon Show has packed in everything there is to tell visually in terms of jokes - not excluding local bon mots. To paraphrase Holga Rosen: "2023 is getting on my nerves so much!" Come in large numbers, it will be fun.

While Helena Baumeister's "Oh Cupid" is about the whole, sometimes confusing, romantic process of two young people getting to know each other, the graphic novel "Emil:ia" by Peer Jongeling is all about the trans man Emil getting to know himself: It's about doubt, acceptance and exchange - among other things. Two comic readings in one evening! We look forward to seeing you.

The 1988 anime classic "Akira" (OmU, 204 min., FSK16) is set in 2019 in a Tokyo rebuilt after a nuclear explosion and tells the story of Kaneda and Tetsuo, two young members of a motorcycle gang who become embroiled in political power struggles and a military research project. It's time to see this visually stunning and experimental science fiction classic on the big screen again!

Manga on speed: Timur Vermes vs. Alexander Braun ● Bestselling author Timur Vermes from Munich ("Er ist wieder da") has a section in his comic blog (comicverfuehrer.com) entitled "5 Manga in 5 Minutes". He will be reading from it in Dortmund: first against the clock (5 minutes) and then against Alexander Braun (who will add his two cents). We expect nothing less than a clash of the titans: Gozilla vs Kong.
