on the Elbe island Wilhelmsburg & Hamburg

An exhibition from 04.12.2025 to 07.12.2025 in the xpon-art gallery in the Münzviertel (at the main station) in Repsoldstraße 45

On May 15, 2000, Mathias Lintl landed on a houseboat in the Spreehafen on the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg. After studying Applied Cultural Studies & Environmental Sciences and working at the Environmental Research Center in Leipzig, he began a new and exciting phase of his life in this interesting area in the heart of Hamburg.

25 years later, he looks back and asks himself & you: Why do you do all this? So what do people think about & get involved in, what was good & helped, what was nice & gave pleasure. And what didn't. So: the usual questions about the meaning of life.

It is important to ponder these questions. Maybe we'll come up with one or two answers along the way. AI is cordially invited to give meaning & formulation to what we do.

In 25 years, many ideas & concepts have come together, countless pages have been filled with thoughts & sketches. Some have been turned into real projects in real places. Even more ideas have come from the many committed & creative people with whom I have had the pleasure & honor of working.

A small excerpt:

- The relocation of Wilhelmsburger Reichsstraße and the repopulation of the center of the Elbe island: presented in 2002, relocated in 2019, occupation of the apartments from 2029

- The paths to the Wilhelmsburg Intercultural Garden from 2005

- Uses & concepts for the former Mengepark cemetery chapel from 2006

- Temporary reactivation of the old ballroom on Veddeler Elbdeich and rescue attempt from 2008

- Creative use of the former customs station at the Old Elbe Tunnel from 2007

- Of course, the wonderful time in the Soulkitchenhalle from 2010 to 2013 and the attempt to establish a lively, wildly beautiful open space laboratory there

- The refuge for urban-stressed people as a contribution to the revitalization of Neuenfelde in Altes Land through innovative living & usage concepts for abandoned urban properties

- And another sacred space, the Dreifaltigkeitskirche church in Harburg, which 3falt tested in order to develop a utilization concept.

- And many other small and large cultural formats, such as record tasting and river light.

- And also the location of the exhibition, which was opened up for art in 2004.

Sure, lots of text, but also lots of pictures that invite us to take a closer look at the special circumstances surrounding the concept development, to evaluate the favorable and unfavorable factors and to question the meaningfulness and sustainability of our work.

The flatware is brought to life during tours, and former accomplices and sympathizers are cordially invited to contribute their memories.

The future emerges from the past.

An idea, which is to be implemented over the next 25 years and may bring joy to people and at the same time help solve problems that somehow concern us all, will be presented and discussed at the end.

Socializing, food & drink will not be neglected and invites you to linger, spin around & network.

Free admission, because everyone should have access to culture. However, you are welcome to make a donation if you would otherwise honor it. Drinks are available for a donation. We don't offer anything that we wouldn't drink ourselves. We conceive these exhibitions and run this space because we think it is important that there are constant and challenging positions between state museums and commercial galleries on the one hand and changing platforms for emerging art on the other - on the one hand to better promote artists who are not yet established, and on the other to create a more vibrant culture for communication between art and the public.
