250 Jahre Unabhängigkeitserklärung – Amerikas Versprechen: Was davon gilt heute noch?

In the organizer's words:

This summer marks the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the US Declaration of Independence. To mark this anniversary, we look back at the founding promises of the USA and ask what significance the ideals of freedom, equality and self-determination formulated back then still have today. Against the backdrop of current developments, we discuss how viable the political and constitutional foundations of the United States are in the 21st century.

What role do the principles of the Declaration of Independence play in the country's political self-image? How resilient are democratic institutions and civil rights in the face of increasing polarization? What has remained of the American promise? And what lessons can be learned for the future of democratic societies?
