On Whit Saturday, 18 May 2024, Berlin-Kreuzberg will be transformed into a colorful children's spectacle, because the 28th Berlin Children's Carnival of Cultures (Kika) is just around the corner! Under the motto "Peace, joy, giraffe!", Kika invites you to an unforgettable day full of fun, music and dance. The children loudly conquer the streets and demonstrate with a colorful costume parade followed by a rousing children's festival in the heart of the city.
As one of the largest non-commercial children's and family festivals in Berlin, the Berlin Children's Carnival of Cultures stands for diversity, community and cultural exchange. Organized by Kreuzberger Musikalische Aktion e.V., it offers a platform for children's and youth institutions to present their activities to a wide audience.
This year's costume parade is also a demonstration and starts at 12:00 on Mariannenplatz, in front of Bethanien, and leads via Oranien-Straße to Görlitzer Park.
Together with the children, we want to draw attention to the situation of the Giraffe, but also to the underfunding of open child and youth work and the lack of spaces for children and young people in the growing city. The "Schule muss anders" alliance is also supporting the children's carnival. The colorful demonstration is primarily intended to give children and young people the opportunity to step up to the microphone and express their wishes and demands. This should give children and young people the chance to be heard!
