28th OPEN ART exhibition in Überseequartier North

"NEW YORK STATE OF MIND": Photographer Christian Popkes brings the Big Apple to Überseeboulevard

Starting September 28, Hamburg-based photographer Christian Popkes will exhibit his works entitled "NEW YORK STATE OF MIND" in large format on Überseeboulevard. They show the Big Apple from a variety of perspectives - from aerial shots to detail shots. He will open the exhibition with Dr. Claudia Weise, neighborhood manager of the northern Überseequartier, Bernd Aufderheide, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH and - appropriately - Hamburg's U.S. Consul General Jason Chue, a native New Yorker, on September 28. In addition, the star photographer's photographs will be complemented by the ten winning images from this year's elbsommer photo competition, which, in contrast, depict a colorful and diverse Hamburg. A unique exhibition that connects two world cities awaits visitors. As always, access to the images is free of charge and possible at any time of day.

For six months, Überseeboulevard will be transformed into a portal to the other side of the world. Through the arrangement of his photographs, Christian Popkes enables vivid impressions of New York: the two entrances to the exhibition begin with shots of the bridges to Manhattan, followed by massive skyscrapers spiraling into the sky in front of you. On the other side: A bird's eye view of New York that seems to equate the skyscrapers with the streets. Popkes integrates an important message for everyone into the exhibition: it should inspire and set anchor points; where am I and where do I want to go?
