33(Billy Bultheel & Alexander Iezzi)

Billy Bultheel and Alexander Iezzi join forces as 33 to present an equally brutal and beautiful blend of hard-hitting hardcore rave, introspective chamber music and artful punk. The fact that composer and performance artist Bultheel and artist Iezzi come from very different artistic backgrounds adds to the creative freedom that their collaborative work exudes. Pounding techno beats, brute samples and sudden flashes of noise break through mournful chorales, melancholy string passages and melancholy piano notes. Imagine a mournful opera house taken over for an experimental club night, or a regal concert hall made of concrete slabs, and you're almost there. For this live show, Bultheel and Iezzi are joined by vocalist Ivan Cheng.

Billy Bultheel, born in Brussels (Belgium) in 1987, studied Electronic Music Composition at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Netherlands) and completed his Master's degree in Performance and Choreography at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen (Germany) in 2012. Between 2009 and 2011 he worked with the Forysthe Company in Frankfurt as artistic and dramaturgical assistant. Since 2012 he has been working as a composer and performer with Anne Imhof. Their works have been shown at MoMAPS1 (New York, 2015), Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2015), Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2015), Liste (Basel, 2014), Kunsthalle (Basel, 2016), Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin, 2016) and Musée d'art contemporain (Montréal, 2016), among others. He was the director of the musical conception and production, as well as performer of the performance Faust (directed by Anne Imhof), which was shown at the Venice Biennale in 2017. Faust received the Golden Lion award for best national participation.

Alexander Iezzi holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Piet van Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. In recent years, he has exhibited as a soloist or in collaboration with other artists at KW Berlin, MoMA New York, Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam, Galerija Močvara, Zagreb and Galleri Syster Luleå. Together with the composer Billy Bultheel, he releases music under the pseudonym 33 on the label C.A.N.V.A.S.
