Bringing Palatinate wine culture to Bavaria and meeting friends at the same time:
That is the idea behind the Palatinate Wine Festival, which has been held once a year in Landau an der Isar in Lower Bavaria for more than 30 years. From May 9 to 11, 2025, the Landau-Südliche Weinstraße event company and the Palatinate Landau tourism office will be hosting the 36th Palatinate Wine Festival in the sister city.
On Friday, May 9 at 4 pm, the big Palatinate Wine Festival will open in Bavaria.
This will be followed by traditional celebrations with Palatinate wine, food and music.
On May 9 from 4 p.m. to midnight, on May 10 from 11 a.m. to midnight and on May 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., specialties from Landau in the Palatinate will be on offer.
This year, Weingut Johler from Lustadt and Wein- und Sektgut Thomas Wambsganß from Landau-Dammheim will be serving their latest vintages at the wine bar. In addition to fine wines by the glass, the Palatinate wine spritzer is also a must. This is traditionally drunk in a 0.5-liter Palatinate Schoppen glass.
Palatinate brandies and liqueurs also add to the wide range of delights on offer. Also included: lots of information material about Landau and the Southern Wine Route for all friends from Bavaria who would like to take a vacation in the Southern Palatinate.
Palatinate and Bavarian music groups provide the atmosphere on all days of the wine festival.
As in previous years, the celebrations take place in the park next to the town hall.
The "two Landaus" have been friends since the 1950s, when Landau on the Isar was hit by a flood disaster and the people of Landau in the Palatinate spontaneously offered their help. The Palatinate Wine Festival, testimony to this special relationship, originated from a wine whim: the idea was born at the Federweißen festival in 1987 by Nußdorf winegrower Gustav Zimpelmann and the then mayor of Landau an der Isar, Jürgen Stadler. Since then, the festival has enjoyed cult status in the Lower Bavarian town.
