The French composer, resistance fighter and Rome Prize winner Elsa Barraine is one of the most exciting rediscoveries of recent times. Her "funeral music" is in the French tradition of tombeau compositions.
With her setting of the 130th Psalm, Lili Boulanger brings pain-filled supplication and the expression of hope for redemption to life through ingenious orchestral language. With his Requiem, Fauré created a 'lullaby of death' instead of a dramatic and terrifying mass for the dead.
