40. ZMF – Philharmonic Jubilee

The classical music evenings have a long tradition at the ZMF and have been part of the festival program since the very first festival. This evening also celebrates its 40th anniversary. The concert will be opened by the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of General Music Director André de Ridder, who will present Sebelius' Violin Concerto with the talented violinist Anna Agafia - an exceptional talent and newcomer.

In addition to the young artist, Giora Feidman will also return to the circus tent stage after many years. Under the direction of Enrique Ugarte, a loyal ZMF accompanist, the Andante from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto and Piazzolla's Libertango will be performed.

It goes without saying that prizewinners will not be missing in the anniversary year. Matthias Matzke and Max Mutzke (it couldn't be more phonetically appropriate) will also be taking part in the concert. The festival welcomes Gerhard Polt as guest of honor with a surprise program.

The evening will culminate in two fascinating arrangements of David Bowie's works, creating a perfect symphony of artists traditionally associated with the ZMF and promising new voices.
