Myths of power - Power of myths - How mythical narratives influence our view of the world
Myths are always sought to secure positions of power and to rally peoples or groups behind them. Some myths create identity, but can also lead to ruin. At this year's Myth Day, we want to explore this special relationship between mythical narratives and social and psychological behavior: in archaeology (Ireland), in the power symbolism of art or philosophy (the "superman"), in right-wing extremism and in the bloody power mythology of vampirism. The conference will conclude with a discussion on vampire beliefs and Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's silent film "Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror".
