"My compositional style is unique. Complex moods, clear and deformed lines
lines always find their way to me," describes the young composer Teresa Chiché. With the work "With melting flowers ... - New York - " she opens up a view of the metropolis. It is home to a harbor that is a symbol of freedom. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island welcomed millions of immigrants in the late 19th century, as well as the composer Antonín Dvořák.
"In 100 years America will be the musical center of the world."
This was Dvořák's prediction, inspired by his experiences in New York. From 1892 to 1895, he spent extremely fruitful years composing in the USA. He arrived in September 1892 and took up a position as director of the
of the National Conservatory in New York. His European roots and his exploration of the melodic means of Native Americans and the African-American population blended to form a unique sound complex, which Dvořák made use of in his late creative phase. His beautiful Concerto for Cello in B minor benefits from this in particular.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold took a journey in the other direction: the composer, who was born in Brno, now the Czech Republic, lived in Hollywood for many years as a successful film composer. Nevertheless, he had his sights set on composing a symphony, which he realized in the late 1940s. Korngold's Symphony in F sharp major was considered by conducting legend Bruno Walter to be "an important work with an original thematic substance, a rare emotional power and a masterly
emotional power and a masterly symphonic form".
