ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK (1841-1904): Symphony No. 8 in G major op. 88
Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 was composed in 1889 at his country estate in Bohemia, audible in its heavier, nature-inspired timbres.
In "Trois femmes de légende", Mel Bonis paints impressive musical portraits of Ophelia, Salome and Cleopatra - three female figures caught between vulnerability, power and self-determination.
The program is complemented by the violin concerto by Manfred Trojahn, one of the most important contemporary German composers.
