6. SInfoniekonzert
In the organizer's words:
LOUISE FARRENC (1804-1875): Overture No. 2 in E flat major op. 24
WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791): Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 25 in C major KV 503
FRANZ SCHUBERT (1797-1828): Symphony No. 8 in C major D 944 ("The Great")
Louise Farrenc's Overture No. 2 combines classical clarity of form with romantic expression and demonstrates her outstanding talent as an orchestral composer.
The Piano Concerto in C major K. 503 is considered the last of the twelve great piano concertos that Mozart created in Vienna between 1784 and 1786; at around 15 minutes, its first movement is the longest concerto movement in Mozart's entire oeuvre.
Schubert's Great C major Symphony also breaks new ground - not only with its playing time of around an hour, but also with its monumental form and inexhaustible wealth of melodies.
