65 Jahre Mauerfall
In the organizer's words:
August 13, 2026, marks the 65th anniversary of the start of construction of the Berlin Wall. To mark this occasion, a temporary memorial site will be set up at the Brandenburg Gate from August 13 to 16, 2026, featuring an installation and exhibition, as well as guided tours, concerts, and discussions with eyewitnesses. In addition, memorial sites, archives, museums, and many other venues throughout the city will host events exploring different perspectives on the Wall and the division of Germany.
Installation at the Brandenburg Gate / Platz des 18. März:
On Platz des 18. März, where the Wall once stood, a 30-meter-long installation brings the physical presence of the former border to life. The installation plays with transparency, lines of sight, and shifts in perspective, inviting visitors to interact with it: Depending on one’s vantage point, it appears either permeable or impenetrable, creating moments of confusion, disorientation, but also of encounter.
Exhibition at the Brandenburg Gate / Platz des 18. März:
At the same time, the open-air exhibition “Views of the Wall: Berlin 1961–1990” presents historical photographs documenting everyday life with the Wall. The focus is on the people who had to live with the division—those who observed, documented, or monitored it.
On August 13, 14, and 16, starting at 12 p.m., free guided tours of the open-air exhibition will be offered in German and English. In addition, there will be live speakers (in German, English, Spanish, Italian, French, and easy-to-understand language) who will answer questions about the history of the Wall and the division of the city.
Program at the Brandenburg Gate / Platz des 18. März:
On August 13, 14, and 16 August starting at 5:30 p.m., the Brandenburg Gate will host conversations with eyewitnesses, readings, and concerts featuring, among others, Masha Qrella, hackedepicciotos, Katharina Kollmann (Nichtseattle), and the KulturMarktHalle choir.

Due to the “Rave The Planet Parade” demonstration, the installation and exhibition at the Brandenburg Gate will be closed on August 15; however, they will remain open beyond the program period on August 17.
