Salzburg-born Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart allowed himself to be carried away by exotic colors in numerous works.
"Abduction from the Seraglio" and the "Rondo alla turca" contain Turkish coloring. In his Violin Concerto in A major, he comes up with a Turkish march in the third movement. A coarse "alla turca" finds its way into the rondo and allows the delicate A major to turn into A minor at a moderate tempo. This Viennese classical view of the Middle East is of course transfigured.

The contemporary Turkish composer Fazıl Say composes authentic Turkish music from today: in his "Istanbul Symphony", he transports us to the culturally vibrant port city. In the 2010
Turkish instruments such as the nay flute, the Turkish zither kanun and special percussion instruments are used in the work, which was premiered in 2010. In seven movements with evocative titles, he takes the concert audience to places such as the Sultanahmet Mosque and the Princes' Islands - for Turkish flair in Kiel's concert hall.
