7th symphony concert
After the "Beethoven double" with the Fifth and Sixth in the 2022 / 23 season and the mini-festival Brahms - an Autumn at the end of October 2024, the opportunity to immerse yourself deeply and intensively in the symphonic work of a composer has proven to be a stroke of luck, both for concertgoers and for the musicians of the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra. So we're going one better: This season, General Music Director André de Ridder invites you to Bohemia - Antonín Dvořák's extremely Czech-influenced Symphonies No. 6 and No. 8 as a mini-festival in June!
With the 6th Symphony, Dvořák continued to make a name for himself as a national composer. We indulge in pastoral melodies, wander through Bohemian forests and let our gaze wander over vast hills in lyrical variations. Now and again, unexpected rhythms or chords catch our attention, dramatically throbbing or gloomily threatening. But then we dance along in the rough folk dance and let ourselves be intoxicated by the fresh wind sounds, the swing of the melodies and festive rhythms.
In the 8th Symphony, Dvořák takes us to his summer residence in his beloved Vysoká and shows his cheerful side again after the rather sombre 7th Symphony. Ever freer, also detached from his role model and friend Brahms, his creative power comes to light, his ideas flow, sometimes dancingly light, sometimes of great depth, moving and moving at the same time. Let's go on a journey together through Bohemia's groves and meadows!
