Spanning from the late Romantic soundscapes of Anton Webern and Richard Strauss to the fascinating sonic spaces of the young contemporary composer Hannah Eisendle, this concert extends its arc right into the present day.
With “heliosis,” Eisendle explores a blazing, dusty summer landscape, caught between paralyzing heat and the struggle for control.
Shostakovich’s 9th Symphony failed to live up to expectations of a monumental triumphal work and instead captivates with wit, lightness, and subtle irony.
