In supermarkets, talk shows, and especially on social media, we overhear and engage in conversations that seem to explode with outrage. The political landscape seems increasingly polarized and social cohesion is under scrutiny. Germany seems divided - the fronts hardened.
What is surprising now, according to the latest studies, is that social perceptions and scientific findings diverge sharply. New studies show that despite all the perceived tensions, the Federal Republic is very united. A large proportion of people share similar values and convictions.
Are we perhaps not as polarized as we often seem? Why do we feel that our debates in recent years have been so strongly characterized by outrage and emotionalism? And how do we manage to tackle our political problems and find concrete solutions despite this excitement?
