A Place to Stay

In the organizer's words:

With his sculptures, installations, films and interventions, Iván Argote constantly examines the relationships between people, power structures and belief systems and questions prevailing historical narratives. His often large-scale, temporary and permanent outdoor works propose new symbolic and political uses of public space. With "Bridges Spreepark", Iván Argote has developed an ensemble of bridges for the future Spreepark that enables unexpected encounters, uses and perspectives.

The exhibition A Place to Stay in the Spreepark Art Space focuses on the performative-participative side of Argote's work with the project "Activissime". Argote has been conducting protest workshops with children for more than 15 years - as an exercise in critical thinking and to strengthen their voices. Three film works trace the most important stages of the project and also address the context and origins of the project, which go back to the activist experiences of his parents in Colombia in the 1970s.

Argote has designed the exhibition space as an inviting place to feel at home, where new workshops can take place. Sculptures enable a playful exploration of the outdoor space in front of the egg house and not only mentally build a bridge to the Spreepark. A Place to Stay is an invitation to consciously perceive the public space and take it in for yourself.
