ARevue is an exuberant happening of extra-terrestrial fashion show, queer revue, pop and baroque and shamanistic rituals. A wild dream and a retro-futuristic opera, as if made for the baroque ambience of the gallery in the Herrenhausen Gardens.
The year is 4020 and the setting is a catwalk under the chandeliers of the gallery. The earthlings look to the past and unearth a repertoire of songs and dances dating back to the Middle Ages. They sift through cultural history and together create a new world in which concepts of time and gender boundaries dissolve. They search for the raw power of the voice and the body. A broad spectrum of human emotions and performative visions unfolds. In an uninterrupted flow of transformations, Meirhaeghe's theater becomes a time machine, both nostalgic and futuristic. A queer, eccentric future emerges from the past - the utopia of an exciting world full of music.
Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, self-made countertenor, performer and part of the management team of Antwerp's Toneelhuis theater, interweaves elements of opera with pop, electronica, ballet and performance in this wild ride.
