As part of the final examinations of the Photography and Media course at the University of Fine Arts / Center for Continuing Education, the two students Eberhard Vogler and Gabriele Keßler will be presenting their final works at Kunsthaus Essen for ten days. Both projects were created in the artist class Photography and Media under the direction of Christiane Hantzsch.

Opening: 16.01.2026 from 7 pm. Both artists will be present. There will also be an artist talk as part of the vernissage.

Eberhard Vogler presents his project "A declaration of love...", in which he explores two impressive Wuppertal landmarks through photographic art: the suspension railroad, the city's famous landmark, and the Nordbahntrasse, a former railroad line that has been converted into a pedestrian and cycle path.

The suspension railroad symbolizes a modern means of transport and technical progress, while the Nordbahntrasse tells of transformation and reuse. Both tourist attractions provide unusual views of the city and link the past and present in an impressive way.

This project is not a documentary and makes no claim to completeness. It is a personal approach, characterized by what fascinates Eberhard Vogler as a native of Wuppertal in his hometown.

Gabriele Keßler 's presentation is entitled: Holidays by the sea

Vacations by the sea is not an invitation to relax. With great visual power, Holidays by the Sea invites us to question our own view of the sea, consumption and responsibility - and to no longer take the seemingly self-evident for granted.

With her photographs, objects and installations, Gabriele Keßler aims to provoke, irritate and hold up a mirror to our society by depicting the material traces of plastic pollution - in the sea, in our bodies, in our perception. The ambivalence between beauty and destruction is impressively shown.

The promise of a vacation turns into thoughtfulness.

Art that does not reassure. Art that remains.
