Abteikirche St. Nikolaus in Brauweiler

The abbey church of St. Nicholas is one of the great Romanesque church buildings in the Rhineland. The foundation of the emperor's daughter Mathilde was redesigned by her daughter Richeza, later Queen of Poland, as the family burial place of the Ezzones. The church from the 11th and 12th centuries was given its present form through slight alterations. It was never destroyed and has therefore been largely preserved in its original form.
The history and stories surrounding the abbey church are presented on the basis of the Romanesque architecture of the "Samson Master", the important sacred works of art and the modern windows by Franz Pauli. Find out, among other things, why there is one of the rare depictions of Hitler in a church interior.
