The Esbjörn Svensson Trio is one of the most important and influential bands in European jazz. While the trio's success story came to a tragic end with the accidental death of its namesake in 2008, the enthusiasm for e.s.t. remains unbroken to this day.
On June 15, 2025, at the invitation of e.s.t. bassist Dan Berglund and e.s.t. drummer Magnus Öström, some of Scandinavia's best-known jazz musicians will come together at the Philharmonie Berlin to breathe new life into the trio's music.
This line-up of Magnus Öström, Dan Berglund, Magnus Lindgren, Ulf Wakenius, Joel Lyssarides and Verneri Pohjola appeared on stage together for the first time in 2023. What was initially only intended as a one-off reminiscence of one of Europe's greatest jazz trios quickly developed into a new success story. After an acclaimed performance in front of an audience of over 2,000 in Stockholm, the trio went on to perform at the Philharmonie Köln, JazzBaltica, Leverkusener Jazztage and other festivals throughout Europe to equally frenetic acclaim.
When you consider that all the musicians involved have successful careers themselves, it makes the continuing success of this ensemble even more astonishing. It is the magic of e.s.t.'s music, its intensity and the musicians' joy in discovering it together: all this creates a concert experience that is hard to resist.
