Adas Raum

In the organizer's words:

"Anyway, the time had come to remind Ada that all beings - past, present and future - are connected, that we always have been and always will be."

Ada's story spans centuries. Her journey takes her through many stages and touches on the most diverse worlds. Ada is a grieving mother trying to say goodbye to her child as she witnesses the arrival of the Portuguese on the Gold Coast of what will become Ghana. In the mid-19th century, she becomes a computer pioneer in England, and in 1945 a forced prostitute in a German concentration camp. In Berlin in 2019, heavily pregnant, she tries to find an apartment.

Ada is many women, she lives many lives. She experiences the misery but also the happiness of being a woman, she is a victim, resists and fights for her independence.

Miriam Ibrahim's production of this touching and multi-layered novel by Ingeborg Bachmann Prize winner Sharon Dodua Otoo is her first performance for Dortmund audiences. Miriam Ibrahim is a director, curator and dramaturge. She attended the Stage School in Hamburg and the Stella Adler Studio in New York and studied theater studies and social/cultural anthropology at the FU Berlin. She was a permanent dramaturg at Theater Oberhausen and is currently working as a dramaturg at Schauspielhaus Zürich. Her most recent work as a director includes Klang des Regens at Staatstheater Augsburg and 1000 Serpentinen Angst by Olivia Wenzel at Schauspiel Hannover. In June of this year, her production Blues in Schwarz Weiß with texts by May Ayim and Julienne De Muirier will premiere at the Residenztheater in Munich.
