In the organizer's words:

From the office to the mountain!

I love the feeling of driving into the mountains after a long day at work. That's probably only possible in Munich. And you shouldn't miss out on this opportunity. Our after-work hike takes us to Lake Tegernsee. During the week in the evening, the famous lake is almost unrecognizable. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful!

I'm Alex, a tour guide from Munich, a passionate hiker and a trained hiking guide with the Alpine Club. With my guided hikes, I want to appeal to anyone who wants to spend a great day in the mountains. In addition to my Sunday hikes, I always offer my After Work Hike on Wednesdays. You can find more information and pictures on my website or on Instagram. Contact me at any time if you have any questions.

The hike

We start the hike directly at Tegernsee train station. After a short warm-up walk through the beautiful village, we leave all the houses behind us and climb up through the forest towards Baumgartenschneid (1,449 m). We follow the classic route towards Riederstein and then take a turn-off to Baumgartenschneid just in time. The great advantage of this summit is its exposed location as the highest point between Schliersee and Tegernsee. We are rewarded with a wonderful 360 degree view. Even though we are "only" at 1,449 m. The view to the west at sunset is also impressive. After our relaxed and certainly quite lonely summit break, the descent awaits. Of course, as always, with an alternative route. The descent is technically not that difficult. But don't forget, it will get dark at some point. So make sure you have your headlamp in your rucksack. The hike ends directly at Lake Tegernsee and we take the last train back to Munich. In order to catch the train, the pace will be a little faster throughout the hike. Therefore, please only take part if you are fit and have hiking experience. We arrive back in Munich at around 00:00. Happy and relaxed, we quickly take a shower and go to bed :)

Facts

We hike 12.5 km, cover 675 meters in altitude and have a walking time of about 4 hours, depending on our pace. We mainly walk on easy paths, forest and woodland trails. I would describe the hike as easy to moderately difficult due to its length. We meet at 16:00/16:10 at the main station, take the train at 16:26 and start around 17:40 at Tegernsee. We will be back in Munich around midnight. In case of bad weather the tour will be canceled. Safety first!

Requirements

Please only participate if you have sufficient hiking experience and good stamina, as we have to overcome 700 meters of altitude at a somewhat faster pace. You must also be absolutely sure-footed and have a head for heights, even in poor visibility. Headlamp for the descent!

Meeting point

We meet punctually and no later than 16:10 at tracks 27-36. This is the right wing station in front, not the tracks in the main hall. It is best to go directly to tracks 27-36. There is a second small Yorma's there. We will meet there. Please be on time. We take the train at 16:26.

PS I will create a group on WhatsApp before the hike and share all relevant and current information for all participants. So be sure to include your cell phone number when booking. Thank you :)

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions! Otherwise, we'll see you punctually at Munich Central Station.
