Alchemic Vampires from Venus

In the organizer's words:

The exhibition by the three Hanover-based artists Martin Grobecker, Christopher Balassa and Christoph Sander issimilar to a cut-up novel by William S. Burroughs, in which seemingly disparate elements and motifs are combined to create something new .The most obvious intersection is the figurative representation - sometimes packaged as a subversive pictorial punchline with supposedly superficial humor, then again as an exuberant and detailed pictorial puzzle with bizarre outgrowths. The approaches and pictorial ideas of the three artists differ just as much as their artistic practice: Christopher Balassa creates his works exclusively in small formats on photographic paper as paintings, while Christoph Sander prefers to realize his graphics using linocuts, and Martin Grobecker produces his graphic works as detailed screen prints.

In the exhibition, drawings, paintings and prints merge into a subversive and wild cosmos of images. On the one hand, the figurative, representational depiction and its exciting juxtaposition of the respective artist positions is central here: Mystical, shadowy figures meet grotesque cartoon creatures or menacingly grinning old men's faces.

Similar to Burroughs' novel "Nova Express",the title "Alchemic Vampires from Venus" sums upthe intention of combining the most diverse elements and motifs to create something irritatingly new.Viewers are encouraged to make their own connections and associations between the works - even with deliberate misinterpretations in mind.
