Güstrow, May 1945: 14-year-old Marlen lies huddled in the drawer of a farmer's chest of drawers in an abandoned forester's lodge. When she finally frees herself, she discovers an old, somewhat inconspicuous canvas. Wilma, who helped Marlen to hide from the Russian soldiers in time, takes the young orphan in. Wilma has a secret that threatens to destroy her.
Berlin, 2023: Hannah Borowski is 34 years old and everything would be fine if her best friend Rubi didn't suddenly move out. And if Hannah's father hadn't suddenly reappeared. And what happened to the valuable canvas that once belonged to Hannah's grandmother and which runs like a thread through her life so far?

Alena Schröder, born in 1979, works as a freelance journalist and author in Berlin. She studied history, political science and Latin American studies in Berlin and San Diego and attended the Henri Nannen School. After several years in the 'Brigitte' editorial team, she now works freelance as a 'Brigitte' columnist, among other things. Together with Till Raether, she talks about writing in her podcast "sexy and down-to-earth".
