1933: Demonstration on the Burgfeld—15,000 people protest against the NSDAP. After that, things grow increasingly bleak: everyday life changes, and the regime intervenes everywhere. Sports clubs are banned, and Nazi troops increasingly gain the upper hand on the streets. Those who do not conform to the “völkisch” norm suffer more and more. The transition to dictatorship does not spare even children and young people: The German School Festival is intended to bring the youth in line with party doctrine, and a few high school students at the Dom build a cog for the Führer. Eyewitness accounts, reports, and newspaper articles speak for themselves and allow us to immerse ourselves in the oppressive atmosphere of Lübeck in the 1930s.
