Ami Warning

When there seems to be no land in sight between all the demands, pressure and tasks, between social media and self-comparisons, between high goals, striving for perfection and deep doubts, it's good, no, it's highly recommended to take a break. When you lose sight of what makes you happy, when you forget what it was all about: it's time for a break. To reflect on yourself. On what you want to do. To the person you really are. To what you can really do. And what you want. Time out to be yourself again. That's what Ami Warning is all about on "Auszeit", her fourth album and second in German, following 2019's "Momentan" and the mixtape "Kurz vorm Ende der Welt" from 2022. Ami Warning - with a name like that, you can only create great things. Great, but at the same time completely at peace with itself. It suits Ami, who tells ten stories in her own style, relaxed, focused and in ten songs, about struggling, doubting, breaking out, arriving, self-empowerment, courage, openness, the joy of trying things out and making peace with yourself. One example is "Liebe is laut", a collaboration with Mola, with whom Ami Warning not only shares her origins in Munich, but also the talent to create entire vignettes full of tension in just a few words and to tell the story of relationships - and their endings - in a new and surprising way. Including a music video that uses warm colors to show the power of joie de vivre and friendship even in the coldest of times. On "war dabei", on the other hand, she sings about getting back on your feet after a break-up with another feature guest with a Munich connection, rapper Fatoni.

"Rastlos" is completely different, dealing with the danger of forever chasing after the next goal and forgetting to take a break. Ami celebrates how taking a break works on the delicate, minimalist opener "Meer will ich", which combines spoken elements with her deep, velvety, warm singing voice. Standing up and immediately handing out likes, self-optimization and fear of the future: Ami sings about feelings that everyone knows. And creates a touching intimacy between herself and her listeners. She also builds up this intimacy in her live shows with a full band - in addition to her on lead guitar, there is also a guitarist, bassist, drums and keyboard. This is due to her deeply relaxed sound, somewhere between singer-songwriter in German and hip-hop beats, but also to the fact that she lets everything flow into her lyrics and finished songs unadulterated, including the scratchiness in her voice. But maybe it's also down to her biography: "I was never really drawn to the stage," says Ami, "for a long time I didn't think it was my thing." But music has always been part of her life: her father is a reggae musician with roots in the Caribbean. "Maybe that also plays a part," she says. Always in the audience at her father's concerts, at some point she does feel like picking up the guitar herself and writing songs. And perhaps at some point to perform in front of an audience.

That was a few years ago now. And also several rounds of self-doubt, searching and self-discovery. The title song "Auszeit" is also the result of this search and this self-confident arrival: with a music video that she simply shot herself with a camcorder on vacation in Aruba, it is a hymn to shifting down a gear, listening to your gut feeling and allowing yourself not only to fight, but also to regain strength. With "Auszeit", Ami Warning stands by our side like a wise friend and advisor. Someone who has been through it all herself and now tells us about life without shame and with a lot of heart, real life without filters and post-processing. And, in passing, manages to create a soundtrack that brings us back from our overexcited, stress-ridden, unsettling times. Into the now. To life. To our time out.
