As part of the seminar“Film and Women’s Rights in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh,” we’re screening the feature film “What Will People Say” by Iram Haq, about 15-year-old Nisha, who leads a double life in Norway, caught between two cultures: At home, she strictly adheres to the traditions and values of her Pakistani family. Out with her friends, she acts like a perfectly normal Norwegian teenager. But when her father catches her with her boyfriend, her two worlds collide violently. Nisha is kidnapped by her parents and taken to Pakistan. She is afraid and feels alone in a foreign land. But little by little, she discovers her family’s country and culture.

A discussion will follow the film to provide a space for dialogue about human rights and women’s rights in Pakistan.
