Sandra, a German writer, her French husband Samuel and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have been living in seclusion in a small village in the French Alps for two years. On a bright day, Samuel is found dead in the snow at the foot of their chalet. Was it murder? Suicide? Or just a tragic accident? Samuel's sudden death seems suspicious to the police, and Sandra becomes the prime suspect.

Justine Triet has created a sophisticated film in which she skillfully plays with the prejudices of her characters and those of the audience. It not only dissects the circumstances of Samuel's death, but also the relationship between Sandra and Samuel. Carried by Leipzig's own Sandra Hüller, who was nominated for an Oscar for her magnificent performance, ANATOMY OF A CASE echoes in the mind for a long time.
