Shortly before the turn of the year, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) will play two club shows: Two days after its home show at the House of Music in Berlin (December 14), the 12-piece ensemble will perform for the first time at Hamburg's new Nica Jazz Club on December 16. Following on from the intensive collaboration with the Brazilian musician Hermeto Pascoal (1936-2025), who died in September at the age of 89, the two shows will also serve as tribute events for the South American icon.

Only voted "Live Act of the Year" at the German Jazz Awards in the summer of 2025, AMEO founder Daniel Glatzel & Co. will present brand new music in addition to the current program and selected Pascoal pieces, as the next studio album by the 12 Berliners is due to be released next year - just in time for the band's 20th anniversary.

You can hear it after just a few moments: This orchestra sounds different somehow. The Berlin-based Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) is a real working ensemble, a large-scale band that always keeps its focus on trying out new things and experimenting. A pool of 12 to 23 musicians from several countries and with different musical backgrounds come together under the direction of saxophonist and main composer Daniel Glatzel to create diverse, surprising and unusual soundscapes of modern jazz and contemporary avant-garde. The special thing about this is the collective sound development of the AMEO. Of course there are soloistic flourishes in the music, but every member of the ensemble also thinks orchestrally. With his orchestra, Glatzel impressively proves that it is still possible to create a large formation in the jazz world that sounds like nothing you have ever heard before. The AMEO has already played at the Elbphilharmonie and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, the Roskilde Festival, the Berlin Jazz Festival and the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele and has collaborated with artists such as Anthony Braxton, The Notwist and the Sinfonietta Riga.
