The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was founded in Berlin in 2006 and is now regarded as one of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic large ensembles. After four acclaimed albums and over 250 concerts in 25 countries on four continents, it is currently a twelve-piece group that can expand flexibly. It mainly plays compositions by founder Daniel Glatzel, which always overcome and expand musical boundaries. AMEO draws from a colorful spectrum of jazz, traditional music styles from all over the world, avant-garde, independent and electronica - "but sounds as if it belongs in a completely separate sub-genre" (Jazzwise).
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra has worked with Hermeto Pascoal, indigenous musicians from Malawi, The Notwist, Sinfonietta Riga and Anthony Braxton, among others, and has also produced several festivals on its own.
It has also produced several festivals and special projects on its own initiative, which are regularly supported by renowned institutions (including the German Federal Cultural Foundation, Capital Cultural Fund, Goethe Institute, Berlin Senate). The AMEO has also worked with the Danish band Efterklang, which until a few years ago organized its own festival at Weißer See in Berlin. As recently as 2025, the ensemble was named "Live Act of the Year" at the German Jazz Awards.
