Angewandte Kunst und Skulpturen - Dauerausstellung

In the organizer's words:

Art from Europe and the world

The second floor of the museum offers a journey through the art of Europe and the world from antiquity to the 18th century with around 3,000 objects from the applied arts and sculpture collections - set against a backdrop of vibrant colors! The walls of the exhibition rooms shine in purple and lemon yellow, violet and grass green, bright red and sky blue. Together with the presentation using state-of-the-art exhibition technology, the diverse collections are presented on an ideal stage.

In the exhibition rooms facing the street, selected items from the collection such as Fürstenberg porcelain, French painter's enamel, Italian majolica and East Asian and ethnological objects can unfold their full splendor. Marble and bronze sculptures are presented free-standing in two rooms.

On the park side, you will find themed rooms that have been designed to span the entire collection. Whether lifestyle, branding or communal dining - the themes tie in seamlessly with our present day. The question of how to build an image and where to find the inspiration for it is not only a concern for today's influencers, but was also a preoccupation of early modern ruling houses (themed room "The Prince as Brand"). And while "chilling out" is a popular leisure activity today, in the past, rulers went hunting.

A highlight of this exhibition area is the Kunstkammer, a room designed with compartments of different sizes full of wondrous objects, such as a prosthetic arm from the 17th century, a bouquet of paper flowers from around 1800, the anatomical model of a pregnant woman, corals, ostrich eggs, stones that were believed to have magical powers and, last but not least, the horn of the legendary unicorn (aka the tusk of a narwhal), which was made into a goblet.
