Claudia Cabrera in conversation with Monika Melchert
Anna Seghers and her family managed to escape from Marseille to Mexico at the last minute and lived there in exile from 1941 to early 1947. It was here that she achieved her greatest literary success, the publication of her novel "The Seventh Cross", but it was also here that she suffered her deepest pain, the news of her mother's deportation and death. The German scholar Monika Melchert talks about Seghers' time in Mexico with Claudia Cabrera, who works in Mexico City and has translated Seghers' exile works into Mexican Spanish.
