"We stand on the knife's edge." Leonie Böhm's appropriation of the ancient tragedy begins when all is not yet lost. In a passionate balancing act, the actresses wipe the dust off the ancient words in the here and now and wrestle with them for agency. The recomposed texts and thoughts of one of the most famous plays in world literature create a present resonant space to confront the "curses" that have been passed down in us through generations. How is a shift in consciousness necessary for lasting change possible? How can we let go of what stands in our way, reinvent ourselves, reconnect? "And here, all at once, a whirlwind lifts dust from the ground into the air, and fills the plain, shreds all the foliage of the forest, the air is full of it!" Leonie Böhm is known for focusing canonized texts on the thoughts and feelings that dwell within them. Classics are resilient. They can be chopped up, condensed, and compiled differently. One can always relate to them anew. The focus is always on taking them seriously in their thoughts and feelings and understanding them in their actions. Leonie Böhm's perspective on the ancient myth of Medea* was invited to the 2021 Theatertreffen.
