Creon is faced with these questions when he is forced to ascend the throne of Thebes after a family catastrophe. The footsteps of his predecessor Oedipus are too big, and the resistance of his self-confident daughter Antigone, who is not prepared to bow to a law she considers wrong at any price, is too strong.

In his contemporary adaptation of the "Antigone" material about the fatal clash between two irreconcilable positions, John von Düffel has merged passages from several ancient plays into a new unit. In doing so, he raises questions that are more topical than ever at a time when democracy is being put to the test.
