In this guided tour, artist and spatial designer Samuel Perea-Díaz explores the role that spatial strategies and critical approaches play in General Idea's work. The tour focuses on the stories and intentions behind the elegiac AIDS images of the Imagevirus series, as well as the design elements created by the group in the context of the 1984 Miss General Idea Pageant Pavilion.
From the captivating Ice Landscape to the poignant AIDS images, the tour looks at the spatial approaches in the iconic trio's 25-year body of work. The main focus of this tour is to analyze the exhibition scenography as revealed in the - literally - viral images. The tour ends with an explanation of the design elements of the 1984 Miss General Idea Pageant Pavilion that are characteristic of General Idea's seminal art.
Samuel Perea-Díaz is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, lecturer and spatial designer. His practice ranges from architecture and curation to sound art. With a background in architecture and a Master's degree in Sound Studies, he has worked extensively with museum scenography, exhibitions, and art installations. Current curatorial projects include An AIDS Walkthrough and Ocaña: The Angel Who Sings in Agony.
