Arp Schnitger originally built the organ, which has been in Grasberg since 1788, in 1693/94 for the church of the Hamburg orphanage. Some of the most famous organists of their time are said to have played on it, including Bach. Couldn't a program including this organ show what Bach's music sounded like back then? This is exactly what Romina Lischka does with her Hathor Consort. Named after a mother goddess of ancient Egypt, it is very familiar with the composer's oeuvre with a string ensemble of viols in the center. The soloist is the Dutch bass-baritone Harry van der Kamp, whose incomparable artistry as an opera, oratorio and ensemble singer is documented in over 100 CD recordings. When he sings some of the most beautiful bass arias from Bach cantatas, his masterful combination of vocal culture, text comprehensibility and emphasis once again underlines why he is considered one of the most renowned voices in his field.
