Unfortunately for Mortimer, the nephew of sisters Abby and Martha Brewster, he is horrified to discover one day that his aunts are not only plagued by mental suffering, but are hiding real corpses in their cellar. Shortly before their deaths, these elderly gentlemen came to enjoy the two elderly ladies' adulterated elderberry wine - a drink that was sure to alleviate their mental and physical suffering. When Mortimer's brother Jonathan, a wanted serial killer, turns up, the whole (corpse) madness really takes off...
Kesselring's black comedy, which premiered on Broadway in 1941, immediately proved to be an absolute hit with audiences. The legendary film version with Cary Grant has long enjoyed cult status. Director Ekat Cordes brings the classic to the stage in a fresh and comic interpretation.
