How do clothing and body images move between tradition, trend, statement and feminist appropriation? ART X MODEST FASHION sheds light on fashion as a cultural statement: sociologist Dr. Laura Haddad explores "modest fashion" and shows how Muslim female influencers in Germany navigate between religious guidelines, social attributions and fashion trends. Together with art historian and designer Mona Behfeld, she discusses kaftans and abayas as artistic, political and social forms of expression.

The starting point is Huguette Caland's embroidered dresses, which combine sensuality and irony with cultural rebellion. In conversation we ask: How do kaftans and abayas move between tradition, trend, statement and feminist appropriation - and how can clothing and body images become a medium for resistance, identity and self-empowerment?

The ART X discussion series brings art and society into dialog - out of the ivory tower and into current discourse. Art educators and experts from various fields discuss pressing contemporary issues in the midst of the Deichtorhallen exhibitions and open up space for reflection, debate and new perspectives.
