How visible is homelessness in our society - and how can housing shortages be dealt with politically, in the media and artistically? ART X WOHNUNGSNOT UND OBDACHLOSIGKEIT examines the causes and consequences of social exclusion. Jörn Sturm, Managing Director of Hinz & Kunzt, talks to Mona Behfeld, art historian and designer, about dealing with poverty in urban spaces, social responsibility and the power of images.

The starting point is the exhibition PHILIP MONTGOMERY - AMERICAN CYCLES, whose photographs document the "eviction epidemic" in the USA - a crisis that tells of economic tensions and social alienation. Together, we will discuss the parallels between the USA and Hamburg and how art can translate empathy into a willingness to act.

The ART X discussion series brings art and society into dialog - out of the ivory tower and into current discourse. Art educators and experts from various fields discuss pressing contemporary issues in the midst of the Deichtorhallen exhibitions and open up space for reflection, debate and new perspectives.
