A voyage of discovery to faraway places
Thanks to Google Maps and space photography, there is nowhere in the world that you can't take a picture of. We can see almost any island through digital eyes. But are we really there? In her multi-award-winning book, Judith Schalansky has dedicated herself to exploring the world using maps: she has collected reports and incidents about remote islands on our planet, about "islands where I have never been and will never be". In a theatrical journey around the world, we travel to twelve of these islands, to remote locations of history and stories. In twelve mini-dramas, we tell the stories of twelve of these events and meet, among others, a treasure hunter, an ornithologist, a singer, the Emperor Napoleon, a pioneer of flight, a polar explorer and an extinct manatee.
The production was supported by the engineering office Susann Schwarzenau.
