Attack on the National Stary Theatre

In the organizer's words:

The National Stary Theatre is attacked by terrorists. The act of violence leads to a series of measures that change the course of Poland's history forever. Attack on the National Stary Theatre brings eyewitness accounts, accelerated imagery and new technologies to the stage. The evening is a journey through time and offers a breathtaking glimpse into an alternative history of Poland; and into a better future. The collective experience of destruction and crime, according to the evening's narrative, leads to the creation of a "new nation".

Jakub Skrzywanek, director of the Narodowy Stary Theatre in Krakow, is one of Poland's most important directors. His work deals with grief, the emotional states that accompany mourning and the way in which theater and new media shape the narrative of a tragedy. Is it possible to avert the collective trauma after such an incident? Can we free ourselves from the corset of our past? Will the premiere of Stanisław Wyspiański's Liberation, which was interrupted by the attack, be played to the end after all?

After the performance on February 4, there will be a discussion with NDR journalist Peter Helling.
